Sunday Funday ~> Monday So-Done Day

I had a fantastic weekend. I performed with a new a cappella group on Saturday, getting back to an injury-proof activity (besides my history of vocal cord nodules, otherwise known as nodes - see Pitch Perfect 1 for a full, mostly accurate explanation of nodes and my senior year of college). I love singing, and truly missed performing in an a cappella group, so I'm hoping this will lead to a new, fun, safe outlet for me.

Then on Sunday, I took care of some errands, then did some unsuccessful clothes shopping, then went to a barre class that kicked my butt (and quads and shoulders), then went hiking with a friend, including handstands on top of a mountain because of course, then went out for dinner with my husband and my stomach ache.

I overdid it. The barre class was amazing but my quads have apparently gotten very wimpy in recent months. There was one position I could not even hold for a second, let alone the felt-like-an-hour the class held it and based movements from it. By the end of the day, I could barely keep eye head up and my eyes open.

On Monday, I felt the effects of my active weekend. My back was not thrilled with me. Nor were my knees, or my wrists, or my ankles, or my shoudlers. From my first patient Monday morning, I knew that my weekend set me up for a rough week at work. By my last patient on Monday, who is almost my size, nonverbal, has many challenging attention-seeking behaviors, and likes to drop to the floor at any point with no concept of safety, I was so done.

I did start off my week with my new funky arch supports that are secured directly on the foot with spandex-like material and can be worn under my socks in my shoe-free office, as well as my new snazzy backpack complete with chest and hip straps. So hopefully those new ergonomic items will help in the long run. After my Sunday, though, it's hard to say if they'll be effective or not.

Okay, I'm off to go hold a wall sit until my quads start shaking - probably about 6 seconds, if I had to guess. Time to get some muscles back so I can protect my joints.
